Following a postponement in November due to all manner of unforeseen and foreseen circumstances, the Film Club returned to the cosy corner of the Clarendon where an enthusiastic crew enjoyed a selection of darkly amusing short films. “Thanks Jim, I’m going to have nightmares”, said one happy customer.

The end of September saw the first Film Club night at The Clarendon. The evening included the first patented LUC automated film quiz with robot voices acting film quotes and films involving personable serial killers and scary spanish phone boxes.

Once more unto the internet, once more. More cool films, more competitions and probably the best poster so far…

LUC took it on the road for an appearance at the Stratford Upon Avon Fringe Festival. Jon Kennedy excelled himself once more, and this time it was on film. The film line-up was of a high quality, including directorial debut Trail Of Crimson, As a special treat for the people of Stratford, folk troubadours Red Hills turned up to contribute a fantastic film score medley to the quiz and played a few tunes at the end. One passer-by commented that it was the most exciting thing to happen in Stratford in about 200 years. Quite probably.

The third innovative RCF Night marked LUC’s first collaboration with the stylish alternative poster world of Art By Prescription, for a much better received picture quiz. As well as the usual treasure trove of weird and wonderful short films from around the dark edge of the internet, this time the audience got involved too – this incredible version of cliffhanger was filmed and submitted on the night. Yes, some people have too much time on their hands..

Probably as a result of the shocking improvement in the advertising art, the second on-line film night was a resounding success. The picture quiz was so dastardly (especially the excellent Number 4) that it drew all sorts of angry responses from the direction of Coventry. Also included a virtual screening of easily the creepiest video on YouTube. Much fun was had by all except at my house where the dodgy take-away took ages to turn up and then wasn’t very good.

In a fearlessly innovative (and much cheaper to organise) move LUC took to the internet for a night of short films, dodgy picture quiz action and all sorts of interactive fun. Prizes were given away for those with the most embarrassing DVD collections and everyone got to see the trailer for Black Shampoo – what a night.

LUC Returned to the Leamington Apollo cinema for another evening of short films, quiz action and complete inebriation. The films were far better this time, a good example being the dark sci-fi tinged Frequency. The quiz was even more outrageous than the first one, those who were there will never, ever forget the version of Nine and a Half Weeks that involved more dairy products than I knew existed. Oh and the free popcorn went down well too.

Established as a way of showing my film The Toilet Story with a bit of actual entertainment thrown in, the first LUC night at the Leamington Apollo sold out. The success of the evening was helped in no small measure by Jon Kennedy’s film re-enactment quiz (including a majestic rendition of Blade Runner) and the audience drinking all of the beer from the cinema bar - which was then re-stocked for the intermission via tesco.
